The role of a Personal Home Based Carer / Health Care Assistants can be challenging, but it is also rewarding as they help improve the quality of life for their clients / Patients.
ASSISTING WITH DAILY LIVING ACTIVITIES
The primary duty of a Personal Home Based Carers / Health Care Assistants is to assist clients with daily living activities, such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting. These personal care workers may also help with household chores, like cleaning, laundry, menu planning, weekly shopping and meal preparation. These activities are essential to maintaining the client’s physical and mental health and promoting independence.
MONITORING AND MANAGING MEDICATIONS
Personal Home Based Carers / Health Care Assistants may be responsible for ensuring that clients take their medications as prescribed. This includes managing medication schedules, reminding clients to take their medications and monitoring for adverse reactions or side effects. Personal Home Based Carers / Health Care Assistants must have a good understanding of the medications their clients are taking and any potential interactions.
PROVIDING EMOTIONAL SUPPORT
Home Based Carers / Health Care Assistants often form close relationships with their clients: emotional support is crucial for their duties. They must listen actively and empathize with their client’s concerns. Home Based Carers / Health Care Assistants must also be able to identify signs of emotional distress and refer their clients to appropriate resources when necessary.
ASSISTING WITH MOBILITY
For clients with mobility issues, Personal Home Based Carers may assist with transferring in and out of bed, walking, or using mobility aids such as wheelchairs or walkers. They must know to do so safely and in a manner that respects the dignity and independence of the client.
MONITORING HEALTH AND COMMUNICATING WITH HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS
Personal Home Based Carers are responsible for monitoring their client’s health, such as taking vital signs or tracking symptoms. They may also communicate with healthcare professionals, such as doctors, nurses, or physical therapists, to ensure the client receives the best care possible.
